CONTACT
My name is Samantha Benc. I’m a queer comic maker and illustrator living in Philadelphia. I grow plants in my apartment, raise shrimp in a tank and love physical things. My focus and passion is on making comics, something I’ve been doing since I was very young and all through college where I did hand stapled zines and small runs of comics. I’m working on my debut long form graphic novel right now while I continue to explore smaller projects and opportunities.
Recently in my work I’ve been pursing themes related to our environment and relationship to it, as well as the commodification of that connection. Comics can be a space to explore some of the darker fears and anxieties of our world, and I try and ground my work in realism while balancing cynicism with needed aspects of hopefulness and joy. I love science fiction and surrealism especially and love to both read and make work that examines personification and consciousness. I graduated from Art Institute of Boston in 2013 with a degree in Sequential Art and Illustration. I am currently working on a graphic novel, Last Ship to Mars published by Henry Holt (Macmillan), 2024. CLIENTS
